How does a 3D ultrasound work?

A 3D ultrasound uses sound waves reflected off of the pelvic region to generate images of an unborn baby. Many women often question the difference between 3D and 4D ultrasounds. The primary difference is that while 3D provides a three-dimensional image, 4D ultrasound features a live video of your baby’s movements. Both types of ultrasounds are optional, but they are offered to pregnant women who desire a more detailed image of their baby. These ultrasounds may not be covered by your insurance provider.

When can I get a 3D ultrasound?

This new and exciting technology available to pregnant women and their partners and families is available after week 19 of your pregnancy. During this time, we are able to provide a 20-minute ultrasound session that includes accurate gender determination, the ability to listen to your baby’s heartbeat, black and white thermal images, and a DVD compilation of still and moving images. Any ultrasound performed before the 19-27 week period will be a traditional 2D ultrasound.

What types of ultrasounds are offered?

Thanks to advances in imaging technology we are able to offer expecting parents the ability to see through the looking glass and receive a unique view of your baby inside the womb in detailed images and while moving. Therefore, in addition to the elective 2D ultrasound to determine gender, we also offer packages that include 3D/4D ultrasounds, a combination of 2D and 3D/4D ultrasounds, or two 3D/4D ultrasounds.
